Obstetrics: Ultrasound

Obstetric ultrasounds are useful tools during pregnancy. It allows your physician to view your fetus in a non-invasive way. An ultrasound is a way to confirm pregnancy, to determine age and size of the fetus, and to diagnose fetal malformations. An ultrasound is also used frequently in pregnancies with multiple fetuses; as well in pregnancies that are experiencing problems.

Obstetric ultrasounds are most commonly done abdominally, but may be done transvaginally in the early stages of pregnancy.
